Skye-bound shopper picks up sail bargain
A Dunkeld woman will be among the first guests to sail in the finest yacht
ever provided for guests at a Scottish hotel after winning the star prize at retail
store group McEwen’s of Perth.
Mrs Muriel Ward won a two nights’ stay at Duisdale House at Sleat on the Isle
of Skye in a draw as part of McEwen’s Gala Weekend promotion which ran
in its stores in Perth, Aberdeen, Ballater, Inverness and Oban. The prize also
includes a sail on the hotel’s new 50 foot luxury yacht, Solus a Chuain (Light
of the Ocean) which starts sailing in April.
Duisdale and Toravaig are the only hotels in Scotland with a luxury yacht
reserved exclusively for guests. Co-owner Ken Gunn is the former captain of
the five star cruise ship Hebridean Princess.
The yacht will take guests on 25-30 mile day sails, often stopping in a
sheltered bay where a Champagne lunch will be served. Its usual route takes
in surrounding islands, Atlantic waters and the Knoydart Peninsula, often
described as “Britain’s last wilderness” and accessible by land only after a 23
mile trek on foot.
McEwen’s owner Georgina Bullough (left), who presented the stay voucher to
Mrs Ward, commented: “McEwens is landlocked at the heart of Scotland, so
to experience the beauty of the West Coast in such an elegant yacht is truly a
treat! We are delighted for Mrs Ward and grateful to Duisdale House for such
a unique prize."
