In December 2003 Ken Gunn and Anne Gracie bought Toravaig House, renovating it over the winter period and opened for business in April 2004. In 2005 they purchased ‘Solus’ (Gaelic for light) a 36’ Jeanneau Sun Odyssey and started their Day Sailing activities for guests of Toravaig. Also in 2005 the Captain’s Folly, a lovely self catering flat right in the centre of Oban and just meters from the sea, was made available for weekly self-catering accommodation.
In the spring of 2007 Yacht Solus was upgraded to a 42’ Jeaneau Sun Oydessy, ‘Solus na Mara’ (Gaelic for Light of the Sea). Also in 2007 Duisdale House Hotel, 3 miles from Toravaig House came on the market. This was taken on by Ken and Anne and developed into a bespoke, individually designed boutique hotel. Both hotels and the yacht have won many awards over the years, for their Boutique Hotels, Food, Sailing and most recently their Wedding packages.
New in 2015 Anne and Ken bought The Skeabost Hotel near the north end of the Island. Some redecoration work is required however the hotel remains open for business and the facelift will ensure that this new hotel becomes another fabulous wedding venue along with being a beautiful romantic island escape.
